KRG rejects proposal to amend federal budget law

"After several meetings and efforts to amend the federal budget law by the Iraqi parliament and resume oil exports, the first and second readings took place; however, at the last moment, it was not voted on," Hawramani stated.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has firmly rejected a proposal from a representative of the Iraqi federal government to amend the federal budget law, KRG spokesperson Peshawa Hawramani announced on Thursday.

"After several meetings and efforts to amend the federal budget law by the Iraqi parliament and resume oil exports, the first and second readings took place; however, at the last moment, it was not voted on," Hawramani stated.

Expressing his surprise, Hawramani criticized the unilateral submission of the proposal to parliament by a federal government representative without prior consultation with the KRG or approval from the Iraqi Council of Ministers. He emphasized that the move directly contradicts a previous decision by the Federal Council of Ministers to amend the budget law to facilitate oil exports from the Kurdistan Region.

Hawramani warned that such unilateral actions could exacerbate existing challenges and hinder efforts to find a sustainable resolution to ongoing disputes.

"We reject these attempts and proposals in any form, and the proposal we have agreed upon must be put to a vote," he asserted.
