ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iran has expressed deep concern over recent attacks by armed groups targeting civilians in Syria, particularly in areas populated by Shia communities.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged the protection of all Syrian factions while reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, according to the ISNA news agency.
In a discussion with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Araghchi emphasized Iran’s support for Syria’s unity and the establishment of an inclusive government.
“A comprehensive Syrian government must be formed, ensuring participation from all political, ethnic, and religious groups,” Araghchi stated
Araghchi highlighted Iran’s alarm over the attacks on Shia communities, calling for the protection of all components of Syrian society.
“The rights of all Syrian factions must be safeguarded,” he added, underscoring the need for a stable and inclusive political framework in Syria.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the discovery of an extensive network of tunnels starting for the Iranian Cultural, used by Iranian militias in the strategic city of Deir al-Zor.
Sources revealed evidence of sectarian and violent rhetoric within the Iranian Cultural Center, where walls displayed slogans promoting sectarian ideologies.
The center also featured imagery of prominent Iranian figures including Khomeini, alongside books titled in honor of "martyr" Qassem Soleimani and other Persian-language glorifications, raising concerns over efforts to deepen divisions in the already war-torn region.
While Tehran emphasizes the importance of unity and safeguarding all groups, reports from Deir al-Zor indicate the discovery of tunnels linked to Iranian militias and sectarian slogans at a cultural center.
These developments highlight challenges in aligning stated intentions with actions, raising questions about their broader impact on stability in Syria.
