France Reaffirms Support for Kurdistan Region at Munich Security Conference

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting the Kurdistan Region, praising the region’s role in preserving stability amid regional uncertainties.

During the meeting between Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Barrot emphasized that France remains a steadfast partner in addressing security concerns and fostering long-term cooperation.

President Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s deep appreciation for France’s continued support, particularly in counterterrorism efforts and maintaining security.

He underscored the importance of strengthening political, security, and economic ties between the Kurdistan Region and France.

Discussions on Syria and Regional Stability

The meeting also addressed broader regional challenges, including the evolving situation in Syria and the future of the Kurdish population there.

Both leaders highlighted the necessity of diplomatic efforts to ensure stability and protect the rights of all communities in the region.

France’s Role in Security and Cooperation

France has played a vital role in assisting the Kurdistan Region, especially in counterterrorism operations and stabilization initiatives.

For his part, Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stressed France's interest in strengthening cooperation with the Kurdistan Region and renewing France's commitment to supporting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in facing security challenges.

As the Munich Security Conference continues, the Kurdistan Region remains actively engaged in diplomatic discussions, reinforcing its role as a key player in regional stability and international cooperation.
