ERBIL (Kurdistan24)—On Tuesday, the Federal Supreme Court of Iraq dismissed a lawsuit filed by Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid against Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Finance Minister Taif Sami. The lawsuit sought to compel the government to send salaries directly to civil servants in the Kurdistan Region.

The court announced that salary registration follows the guidelines the Central Bank of Iraq has set. It emphasized that such measures should be coordinated between the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Finance and Economy.

“We have decided to dismiss the petitioner's complaint, especially since the claims made in the complaint are outside their expertise,” the court stated.

This ruling reinforces the importance of cooperation between the federal and regional governments in addressing financial matters, ensuring that salary payments are handled within an established framework.

Hawre Tofiq, head of the Iraqi presidency’s relations, announced on Feb. 9 that President Rashid had filed the lawsuit.
