Mounting Tensions and Regional Implications
This incident comes at a time of increasing instability in northern Syria, particularly in the city of Mare', north of Aleppo, where tensions have been escalating between the Syrian National Army and the Internal Security Forces.
According to local reports, military units from Marea recently withdrew from their positions near the Tishrin Dam in Manbij and redeployed to the city amid a growing power struggle over control and influence.
Snipers have been positioned on rooftops, signaling strong resistance against the entry of internal security forces into the area.
The move coincides with calls to prioritize the "liberation of Raqqa, Hasakah, and eastern Euphrates" before any internal security arrangements are established.
In a counter-escalation, the Internal Security Forces raided a Syrian National Army base in Marea, arresting commander Hossam Hafiz—a move that could further deepen divisions and trigger additional confrontations.
