Iranian Interior Minister Arrives in Baghdad
The visit is expected to address several pressing issues, particularly the enhancement of security cooperation between Iraq and Iran.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Baghdad on Saturday morning for an official visit, responding to an invitation from his Iraqi counterpart, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari.
The visit, which will last for two days, aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, with a particular focus on “security cooperation, counterterrorism efforts, and border management,” according to Iran’s official news agency, (IRNA).
Upon his arrival at Baghdad International Airport, Momeni was received by Iraq’s Deputy Interior Minister, Lieutenant General Ziad Ziad, along with Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadiq.
He was accompanied by a senior delegation, including Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, Iran’s Deputy Minister for Security and Law Enforcement, and Sardar Seyed Timur Hosseini, head of the Iranian police force.
The visit is expected to address several pressing issues, particularly the enhancement of security cooperation between Iraq and Iran.
Discussions will revolve around regional security coordination, counterterrorism measures, and strategies to combat arms and drug smuggling across their shared borders.
Officials will also work toward resolving border disputes and improving mechanisms for managing cross-border movement.
Additionally, the two sides are set to hold preliminary talks regarding logistical preparations for the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage, an event that annually witnesses the movement of millions of Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims.
In a related development, the Iranian Ministry of Interior revealed on Friday that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is set to be signed between Iraq and Iran, allowing for mutual recognition of driving licenses.
The agreement, once finalized, will enable Iraqis residing in Iran and Iranians living in Iraq to translate and officially validate their driving permits, facilitating easier movement and vehicle transport between the two countries.
