ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has formally requested permission from Turkey’s Ministry of Justice for a third visit to Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), in Imrali Prison.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, DEM Party spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan confirmed that the Party had submitted an official request for the visit. The delegation aims to discuss the resumption of the peace process in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan.

The DEM PARTY delegation consists of senior Party members, including Ahmet Türk, Serai Süreyya Önder, and Pervin Buldan. They have previously met with Öcalan twice—first on Dec. 28, 2024, and again on Jan. 22, 2025—both times focusing on potential pathways to restart political negotiations for peace.

Meanwhile, Turkish Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç commented on the potential third visit, stating on Feb.19, 2025, that while the government does not oppose the meeting in principle, the DEM Party had yet to submit a formal request at that time.

The request comes amid ongoing discussions about the future of political dialogue in Turkey, particularly regarding the Kurdish question and the stalled reconciliation and peace process.
