DEM Party Welcomes PKK’s Ceasefire Decision
Gulistan Kilic described the PKK’s response as a "historic step" and emphasized that the ceasefire declaration demonstrates a clear and rapid commitment to Ocalan’s call.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Gulistan Kilic, Deputy Chair of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) parliamentary faction in Turkey, welcomed the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) decision to implement a ceasefire, calling on parliament to take swift action and assume responsibility for the process.
In a statement on Saturday, the PKK's Executive Committee reaffirmed its commitment to Abdullah Ocalan’s call and announced that, effective immediately, it would enforce a ceasefire against Turkey, fully adhering to the content of Ocalan’s message.
A Historic Step Toward Peace
Speaking to Sabah TV, Kilic described the PKK’s response as a "historic step" and emphasized that the ceasefire declaration demonstrates a clear and rapid commitment to Ocalan’s call.
She noted that while the ceasefire primarily involves disarmament and dissolution, it also carries a deeper message—an appeal for democratization.
She stressed that the state must embrace democratic governance and ensure an inclusive system that represents all ethnicities, ideologies, and communities within the country.
Parliament Urged to Play Its Role
Kilic further emphasized that the Turkish parliament, with its authority and responsibility, must actively engage in facilitating the peace process. She called for urgent and necessary steps to implement the process and pave the way for lasting peace.
Earlier today, the PKK’s Executive Committee not only reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire but also reiterated its demand for Ocalan’s release, arguing that he must oversee the congress that would mark the party’s formal dissolution.
