ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope on Wednesday that Moscow would respond "constructively" to a 30-day ceasefire proposal for Ukraine, which was put forward by the United States and accepted by Kyiv.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Ankara, Erdogan described Ukraine's acceptance of the truce as a "positive and important" step.

Turkey’s Position on the War

"Turkey's stance on this war has been clear from the very beginning. We do not want to see more bloodshed, and we hope that our two neighbors will bring this war to an end through a just peace," Erdogan stated.

The Turkish leader reiterated his country's willingness to mediate, offering Ankara as a venue for future peace talks should the latest developments push Russia and Ukraine toward the negotiating table.

Poland Seeks Greater Turkish Role

For his part, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized Ankara’s role in regional stability, urging Turkey to take on greater responsibility in promoting peace.

"I made a clear proposal to President Erdogan: that Turkey assumes the greatest possible responsibility in the peace process and in ensuring stability and security throughout our region," Tusk stated.

Before departing Warsaw, the Polish premier stressed the importance of ensuring NATO and European guarantees for stability along the Russia-Ukraine border once a ceasefire is implemented. "Turkey’s role could be crucial in this respect," he added.

Ceasefire Proposal and Russia’s Response

The 30-day ceasefire proposal was discussed during talks in Saudi Arabia between Ukrainian and American officials on Tuesday. The proposal comes after more than three years of war between Russia and Ukraine.

Moscow has yet to formally respond, stating that it is waiting for official communication from Washington following the recent resumption of diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
