ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has reaffirmed its commitment to infrastructure development, announcing that work on the highly anticipated 40-meter road in Erbil’s Soran independent administration is progressing steadily. A major highlight of this project is the construction of the tallest bridge in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, set to become a landmark in the area.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani officially launched the initiative on May 28, 2024, laying the foundation stone for several projects in Soran, including the expansive 40-meter street. The road spans five kilometers and features a two-lane design to improve connectivity between Soran’s central road and the Mergasor district, significantly easing traffic flow for commuters.

The project's crown jewel, a 250-meter-long bridge 23 meters high, is expected to enhance the region's functionality and aesthetics. With a budget of 28 billion Iraqi dinars for the bridge alone and a total project cost of 50.5 billion dinars, this development reflects the KRG’s strategic investment in modern infrastructure.

Beyond improving transportation, the project underscores Soran’s growing significance as an independent administration. Officially recognized on Sept. 14, 2021, the Soran administration comprises six districts and continues to see substantial development aimed at boosting its economic and logistical capabilities.

This ambitious endeavor marks another step toward enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth in the Kurdistan Region, reinforcing the KRG’s commitment to progress and modernization.
