ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region made a notable debut at the Paris International Book Fair this year, drawing significant interest from attendees during the three-day cultural event.
French President Emmanuel Macron officially inaugurated the book fair on April 11 at the Grand Palais in Paris. Among the many international exhibitors, the Kurdistan Region had its own dedicated section for the first time—an initiative made possible through the efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Representation in France in coordination with the French Government.
Ali Dolamari, the KRG representative in France, told Kurdistan 24 on Sunday that the books featured in the Kurdistan section were warmly received by the public.
“For the first time, the Kurdistan Region participated in such a large fair in France, which attracted nearly a million visitors,” Dolamari said.
The Kurdistan booth showcased a diverse collection of historical, political, artistic, and sports books, as well as poetry, novels, and essays in Kurdish, English, and French.
According to Dolamari, there was a strong turnout in the Kurdistan section, with many French visitors expressing keen interest in learning more about Kurdish culture and identity.
“Many French people wanted to know more about the Kurds, leading to a high number of visitors to the Kurdistan section of the fair,” he noted.
The event marked a milestone in the Kurdistan Region’s cultural diplomacy and was seen as a successful effort to promote Kurdish literature and heritage on the international stage.
