KRG Prime Minister Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Key Issues with US Delegation
Prime Minister Barzani underscored the urgency of reopening the export process, noting that further delays would result in significant financial losses for both the KRG and the federal Iraqi budget.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), on Tuesday, welcomed a US delegation led by Victoria Taylor, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran in Erbil, where the two senior officials discussed enhancing bilateral relations, the general situation in Iraq and the region, and the ongoing efforts to form a new KRG cabinet.
Both sides affirmed the importance of the timely formation of the new cabinet for the KRG, emphasizing the importance of achieving this as soon as possible, particularly before the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections later this year. Both sides acknowledged the need to strengthen political stability in the region, especially in light of the changing dynamics within Iraq.
Another key topic was the resumption of Kurdistan’s oil exports, which both sides were on the same page about it. Prime Minister Barzani underscored the urgency of reopening the export process, noting that further delays would result in significant financial losses for both the KRG and the federal Iraqi budget.
Additionally, the talks highlighted the importance of safeguarding the rights and resources of the Kurdistan Region. PM Barzani emphasized the need to maintain a balance of power between the KRG and the federal government, with a clear focus on ensuring the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people are respected.
The relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the federal Iraqi government has been marked by periodic tensions, particularly over issues such as oil exports and revenue sharing. However, recent years have seen increasing cooperation, with both sides working toward resolving disputes and ensuring stability. With the formation of a new KRG cabinet and the resumption of oil exports, there is hope for further economic growth and a stronger political partnership with the United States. As Iraq navigates its own political challenges, the Kurdistan Region continues to push to obtain its constitutional rights and fair representation within the country’s broader framework.
