Erbil (Kurdistan24) – Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, stated on Wednesday, that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) exists to serve its people, not to provide privileges to political factions. His remarks came during a press briefing following his participation in a panel discussion at the ninth Sulaimani Forum 2025.

“The purpose of the government is to serve the people, not to secure political advantages for any party,” PM Barzani said, adding, “Any side that truly wishes to serve the people—we are ready to welcome it.”

Barzani called on all political parties in the Kurdistan Region to adopt a unified position in defense of the region’s constitutional rights, stressing that common national interests must outweigh partisan considerations. “We must work together to ensure the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people are protected and respected,” he declared.

Touching on the ongoing discussions regarding the formation of the new KRG cabinet, Barzani noted, “There are no significant differences over the government formation agenda, but positions should be allocated based on electoral entitlement.”

He went on to highlight the continuing negotiations between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), saying, “Relations between the two parties are moving forward positively. Meetings have been constructive, and the atmosphere remains cooperative.”

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the role of the Kurdistan Parliament, stating unequivocally, “The Kurdistan Parliament belongs to the people of Kurdistan. It is not the property of any party, and no side has the right to dissolve it.”

A key follow-up meeting is expected to take place on Thursday, April 17, between the high-level delegations of the KDP and the PUK at the PUK’s political bureau in Sulaimani. According to Kurdistan24’s correspondent in the city, the meeting is set to advance the negotiations held earlier this week in Pirmam, where both sides addressed crucial issues related to ministerial distributions and cabinet formation.
