ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — President Masoud Barzani on Wednesday welcomed a group of Iraqi Members of Parliament representing Nineveh province to his headquarters in Salahaddin, where the two sides discussed the political and humanitarian situation in the war-torn region and stressed the need for coordination among political actors to resolve ongoing challenges.

President Barzani and the Nineveh lawmakers exchanged views on the province's reconstruction efforts, the hardships facing its citizens, and the fragile political dynamics shaping Nineveh’s future. President Barzani emphasized the importance of joint efforts and cross-party cooperation to rebuild the province and ensure lasting stability and prosperity for its diverse communities.

Nineveh province, which includes the city of Mosul, was one of the regions most heavily affected by the ISIS occupation and subsequent military operations. Despite years having passed since the territorial defeat of ISIS, Nineveh continues to struggle with infrastructure damage, security instability, political fragmentation, and the slow return of displaced people.

President Barzani, a key figure in Iraq’s political landscape and a longstanding advocate for coexistence and reconstruction, reiterated his support for resolving Nineveh’s issues through dialogue and inclusivity. He called on lawmakers to work in unity, transcending political rivalries to advance much-needed development and public service delivery across the province.

The meeting underscores the ongoing engagement between the Kurdistan Region’s leadership and national parliamentary representatives on issues affecting the broader Iraqi landscape, particularly in areas with complex ethnic and religious compositions like Nineveh.
