ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Council of Ministers, led by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and attended by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, held its weekly meeting on Wednesday to address critical economic and administrative matters.
A central focus of the meeting was the ongoing negotiations surrounding the resumption of oil exports, which have been suspended for over a year. Acting Minister of Natural Resources Kamal Mohammed Salih presented a detailed briefing on the latest developments, reaffirming that the KRG has fulfilled its obligations under the first amendment to the Iraqi federal budget law and is prepared to restart oil exports immediately.
“The Kurdistan Region has removed all obstacles to the resumption of oil exports and is ready to deposit revenues into the federal treasury,” Salih stated.
Umed Sabah, President of the Diwan of the Council of Ministers, and Cabinet Secretary Amanj Raheem also shared updates from recent discussions involving the federal government, the KRG, and international oil companies.
Following the presentations, the Council reiterated its firm support for ongoing negotiations between the KRG Ministry of Natural Resources and the Federal Ministry of Oil. It called for sustained coordination between all relevant parties—including SOMO (State Organization for Marketing of Oil)—to finalize an agreement and resume exports without further delay.
The Council also addressed the reorganization of the Kurdistan Region’s Public Pension Management Institution in accordance with Unified Public Pension Law No. 9 of 2014 and a ruling by the Federal Court. In a show of commitment to public sector retirees, the Council underscored the importance of protecting pensioners' rights and instructed the Ministries of Finance and Economy, Peshmerga Affairs, and Interior to ensure the timely processing of all pensions and entitlements.
The meeting reflected the KRG’s efforts to stabilize the economy and honor its commitment to public servants, while pushing forward a swift resolution to the oil export impasse in cooperation with Baghdad.
