ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced Thursday that it will begin accepting candidate lists for the upcoming parliamentary elections starting May 25.

According to Emad Jamil, head of IHEC's media team, the registration period will remain open until June 24. Parties, coalitions, and individual candidates are eligible to submit their nominations within this window.

Jamil also revealed that approximately 1.2 million citizens have renewed their biometric data in preparation for the election, a critical step to ensure voter eligibility and reduce electoral fraud.

Earlier this year, on April 9, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani’s office confirmed that the Council of Ministers unanimously approved November 11, 2025, as the official date for the next parliamentary elections.

Jumana Ghalai, spokesperson for the IHEC, told Kurdistan24 that the commission is fully prepared to carry out the election process in accordance with the timeline set by the Council.

The 2025 vote is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Iraq’s political landscape as the country continues its efforts toward stability.
