Iraq Emerges as Major Market for Japanese Vehicles, Importing Over $700 Million Worth in 2024

Figures released by trade authorities show that Iraq imported Japanese vehicles and automotive goods valued at $712.47 million last year, accounting for 16 percent of Japan’s total global exports in the sector.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraq has strengthened its position as a key destination for Japanese vehicles, importing over $700 million worth of cars and related products in 2024, according to official data.

Figures released by trade authorities show that Iraq imported Japanese vehicles and automotive goods valued at $712.47 million last year, accounting for 16 percent of Japan’s total global exports in the sector.

The data revealed that Iraq imported 17,994 cars from Japan, with a total value of $612.31 million. In addition, 2,156 goods transport trucks were brought into the country, worth $51.69 million.

Beyond vehicles, Iraq also imported 3,201 units of private passenger vehicles, tractors, and car accessories, amounting to $39.42 million.

Two-wheeled transport also saw a significant uptick. A total of 236,477 motorcycles and bicycles were imported, valued at $7.97 million. The number of bike accessories, wheelchairs, and strollers reached 510 units, worth $1.78 million.

The figures highlight Iraq's growing demand for Japanese automotive products, underscoring the country's expanding transportation and logistics needs amid economic recovery and infrastructure development.
