ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani declared that his visit to Washington marked a turning point in U.S.-Kurdistan relations, describing the week as one of “landmark energy deals, commerce with our U.S. partners, and bringing prosperity to the people of Kurdistan and all of Iraq.”

In a statement posted on his official X account, the Prime Minister emphasized that the bilateral relationship is evolving to “another layer” of strategic collaboration, one rooted in mutual trust, shared values, and long-term vision.

The statement followed a high-level diplomatic meeting between Prime Minister Barzani and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the State Department. Speaking at a joint press conference following the meeting, Secretary Rubio reaffirmed the United States' unwavering support for the Kurdistan Region, calling it a “fundamental and strategic component” of Washington’s broader Middle East policy under President Donald Trump.

“Kurdistan’s strength and stability are key pillars of U.S. regional strategy,” Rubio declared, lauding the Region’s commitment to inclusivity, democratic governance, and humanitarian leadership.

Prime Minister Barzani’s visit also witnessed the signing of two major energy agreements with leading American oil firms — HKN Energy and WesternZagros — which are expected to inject billions into the Kurdistan Region’s gas infrastructure, boost electricity production, and create new investment opportunities.
