ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Monday that three cases of HIV infection had been confirmed among health team members working in women’s beauty salons, prompting urgent warnings and stricter enforcement of health regulations.

The infections were discovered through the Ministry’s routine health screenings and laboratory testing as part of efforts to monitor and regulate public establishments. The individuals who tested positive were identified during health license issuance and renewal procedures for salon staff.

In response, the Ministry has pledged to take legal action against any business operating without a valid or up-to-date health license. Officials stressed that strict measures will be enforced to protect public health and ensure the safety of both workers and customers.

“Citizens should only visit licensed salons that clearly display valid health permits,” the Ministry stated, urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any unauthorized or suspicious establishments through official hotlines or complaint boxes.

The announcement comes a day after a report by Kurdistan24 journalist Azar Faruq revealed that three out of six workers from different salons had tested positive for HIV, sparking widespread concern over hygiene standards in the personal care industry.

Health authorities reiterated that safeguarding community health is a shared responsibility, calling on the public to avoid unofficial venues and to support the government’s efforts in ensuring compliance across the sector.
