ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Israeli military announced on Monday that it had intercepted a missile “launched from Yemen,” triggering air raid sirens across several regions of the country. The latest incident adds to an ongoing series of attacks linked to the Gaza war, raising tensions further in an already volatile region.

In an official statement shared via its Telegram channel, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said: “Following the sirens that sounded earlier in several areas inside Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted.”

As reported by the IDF, the initial detection occurred when the aerial defense systems identified a projectile headed toward Israeli territory. The air force activated interception measures, and sirens were sounded across several areas as a precaution. “Sirens were sounded in accordance with protocol,” the IDF confirmed. The public was urged to adhere strictly to the Home Front Command’s safety guidelines.

According to earlier reports posted by the IDF on its official Telegram channel, the launch was swiftly detected and classified as a missile threat originating from Yemen. “The IDF has identified the launch of a missile from Yemen toward Israeli territory, IAF aerial defense systems are operating to intercept the threat,” the military said.

This incident follows a similar attack the previous night, which was also attributed to the Houthi movement in Yemen. The Houthis, aligned with Iran, have persistently launched missiles and drones at Israeli targets since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023, claiming their actions are in solidarity with Palestinians.

Although most incoming threats have been successfully intercepted, one missile in early May reached the vicinity of Ben Gurion International Airport, marking a significant escalation.

In retaliation, Israel has conducted several airstrikes on targets in Yemen, including key infrastructure such as ports and the airport in the capital, Sanaa. These developments underscore the growing regional dimensions of the Gaza conflict and the deepening involvement of non-state actors aligned with Iran.

The recent interception highlights the increasing complexity of Israel’s defense posture, as it now faces multi-front threats not only from Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon but also from the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen.
