ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — An Israeli drone strike killed a senior Iranian police officer and his deputy on Saturday in Iran's western province of Hamedan, Iranian media reported, as tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv escalated for a second consecutive day.

According to AFP, the semi-official ISNA news agency stated that “this morning, police chief Major Habibollah Akbarian, along with second lieutenant Amir Hossein Seifi, were martyred by a drone strike in Asadabad city,” located approximately 300 kilometers (186 miles) west of the capital, Tehran.

The reported attack comes amid a sustained aerial campaign attributed to Israel, following a series of military exchanges that have sharply intensified in recent days. While Israel has not officially confirmed the strike, it follows a pattern of targeted operations against Iranian military and security assets.

Iranian officials have not yet commented on whether the drone attack originated from Israeli forces, but the incident adds to the mounting pressure on Iran’s security infrastructure amid fears of wider regional escalation.

This latest development comes just one day after multiple reported Israeli airstrikes hit targets in central and western Iran, signaling a significant escalation in hostilities between the two longtime adversaries.
