ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed on Monday that one of its commanders, Reza Najafi, and IRGC Guard Hassan Rasouli, were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting a military site in the Ejrud region of Zanjan province, located in the northwest of the country.
According to an IRGC statement published early Monday, the commander and the IRGC Guard lost their lives as a result of Israeli strikes that targeted what were described as strategic military facilities.
Earlier the same day, the Israeli army announced it had carried out airstrikes on command centers affiliated with the IRGC and its elite Quds Force, including locations in Tehran and central Iran. The Israeli military said the targeted facilities had been used “to plan terrorist attacks against the State of Israel through Iranian proxies operating in the Middle East.”
The strikes reportedly destroyed infrastructure linked to Iran’s air defense and missile production systems, including facilities for manufacturing solid-fuel engines and ballistic missile components.
The exchange marks the fourth consecutive day of escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel, as both sides continue to engage in tit-for-tat strikes.
On Friday, June 13, Israeli warplanes launched a major operation targeting Iran’s missile and nuclear facilities, dubbed “Operation Rising Lion,” according to Israeli defense sources.
In response, Iran declared “Operation True Promise 3,” launching a wave of missile and drone attacks on Israeli cities and military sites.
The current confrontation follows years of covert conflict between the two regional powers but has now escalated into open military engagement, raising fears of a wider regional war.
