ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraq’s Shiite Coordination Framework has called on the international community to stand against what it described as Israel’s “arrogance” and aggression toward the Islamic Republic of Iran, amid escalating regional conflict between the two nations, according to a statement carried by the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA).

In a meeting held at the office of former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and attended by current Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and key leaders of the Shiite Coordination Framework, participants strongly condemned Israel’s continued military actions against Iran. The statement expressed deep concern over the killing of Iranian commanders and scientists, as well as the deaths and injuries of numerous civilians, and the targeting of economic and strategic infrastructure within Iran.

“These attacks are a dangerous escalation that threatens to broaden and prolong the conflict,” the statement read, adding that Israel must be held accountable for its actions.

The group urged the international community—and specifically regional countries—to stand up to what it termed as "the Zionist entity’s aggression" and to push for an end to its military operations against Iran. It also called on Iraqi citizens from all social, political, and cultural groups to stage protests in solidarity with Iran and to denounce what it views as unjustified hostilities.

Additionally, the Coordination Framework stressed its firm opposition to any violations of Iraq’s airspace, particularly for the purpose of launching attacks on neighboring countries. The group reaffirmed its stance that Iraq must continue to play a constructive role in promoting regional stability and work toward resolving the crisis sparked by Israel’s ongoing military actions.

Iraq Deploys Russian-Made Air Defense Systems Near Strategic Oil Sites

Meanwhile, the Iraqi government has begun deploying Russian-manufactured “Pantsir” air defense systems around several strategic oil facilities in southern Iraq, according to Iraqi media citing Iraqi officials. The move comes as the Israel-Iran conflict enters its fourth day, heightening fears of potential spillover into Iraqi territory.

The deployment decision follows heightened concerns over regional instability and the possibility of military escalation affecting Iraq. The “Pantsir” system is one of the most effective short-to-medium-range air defense platforms and is capable of intercepting drones and cruise missiles—both of which have been widely used in the Israel-Iran conflict.

Iran-Israel Conflict Reaches Dangerous New Heights

The war between Iran and Israel has dramatically escalated over the past few days, with both nations engaging in open, direct attacks for the first time in years. In the early hours of Monday morning, Iran launched waves of missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory, striking major cities and military installations. Israel has retaliated with airstrikes deep into Iran, targeting high-value military infrastructure.

According to recent reports, dozens of civilians and military personnel have been killed on both sides. The international community has issued urgent appeals for restraint, while fears grow that the conflict could spark a wider regional war.

Efforts to broker a ceasefire continue, but leaders across the Middle East and in global capitals remain on high alert as the risk of further escalation persists.
