Iraqi and French Foreign Ministers Discuss Urgent Efforts to De-escalate Regional Tensions
Iraq, France urge de-escalation amid Iran-Israel conflict, warn of global crisis. Call for EU-led ceasefire push and diplomatic solution to prevent wider war.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot to discuss the latest regional developments and the urgent need to de-escalate military tensions, Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday.
According to the official statement, the call took place on Tuesday, amid heightened regional tensions following the military assault on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Both sides underscored the gravity of the current situation and voiced identical concerns about the potential for the conflict to spiral into a broader international crisis, with serious economic and humanitarian consequences.
The two ministers emphasized the need for immediate international action to halt military operations from all parties involved. They warned that the continuation of hostilities could lead to further instability on a global scale.
Fuad Hussein reiterated the importance of preventing the conflict from expanding or drawing in additional regional and international actors, which could endanger global peace and security.
He also urged European nations—particularly France, the United Kingdom, and Germany—to assume an active and direct role in pushing for an immediate ceasefire and resumption of negotiations.
Both officials agreed on the necessity of aligning international positions in support of diplomacy, which they described as the only viable path to spare the region and the world from grave and unforeseen repercussions.
