Iran Urges Emergency UN Security Council Meeting Over U.S. Strikes, Citing 'Blatant Aggression'
Iran urged the UN Security Council to condemn U.S. airstrikes on its nuclear sites, calling them illegal and coordinated with Israel. Trump called the strikes a “historic success,” declaring Fordow “gone.” Tehran warned it now considers itself in open war.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iran has formally called on the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency session in response to what it describes as “a flagrant and unlawful act of aggression” following U.S. airstrikes on three of its nuclear facilities. The letter was delivered by Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and was first reported by the Tasnim News Agency.
In the letter addressed to the Security Council, Iravani denounced the strikes as “deliberate, premeditated, and unprovoked acts of aggression” and urged the Council to “condemn them in the strongest terms” while taking necessary measures to hold the perpetrators accountable under the UN Charter.
The Iranian envoy emphasized that the attacked facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan—were all under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), describing the U.S. action as a violation of international law, the IAEA Statute, and several UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolutions 487 (1981) and 2231 (2015).
Iran's complaint marks its sixth official communication to the Council since hostilities escalated earlier this month following Israeli strikes on Iranian military infrastructure. Tehran’s latest letter claims that the U.S. coordinated its attack with Israel and accused both countries of attempting to derail regional stability.
Trump Declares ‘Spectacular Military Success’
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – U.S. President Donald J. Trump, flanked by top members of his national security team, delivered a televised address on Sunday hailing the American military operation as a “historic success.” Trump confirmed that the nuclear enrichment facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan were “completely and totally obliterated.”
“Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror,” Trump said. “Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success.”
Trump also issued a stark ultimatum: “Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier.”
The President praised close coordination with Israel and lauded the American military, singling out General Dan Caine and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for “brilliant leadership.” He concluded his address with a call for diplomacy, saying: “Now is the time for peace.”
Fordow Strike: Turning Point in Iran's Conflict with Israel
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iranian authorities confirmed that the Fordow nuclear facility in Qom Province had been struck, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict with Israel. Morteza Heidari, spokesperson for the Qom Crisis Management Center, said air defense systems were activated and that several sections of the facility were bombed.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded with a defiant message on its official X account, stating: “Now the war has begun for us.” The strike on Fordow—a highly fortified site with symbolic significance—has underscored the depth of the confrontation and suggests Tehran views itself as now fully engaged in open warfare.
B-2 Bombers, 30 Tons of Bombs Used
According to Reuters, the U.S. used B-2 stealth bombers to carry out the strikes in what was described as one of the largest single operations against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The New York Times reported that more than 30 tons of bombs were dropped on Fordow alone. Axios revealed that Trump approved the operation following consultations with his national security team, with Israeli officials receiving advance notice.
Israeli Channel 14 reported that a senior Israeli official described the operation as a “crushing blow” to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump confirmed the strikes and declared, “FORDOW IS GONE.”
While President Trump called for peace, the coordinated airstrikes and Tehran’s subsequent appeal to the UN have significantly heightened the risk of further escalation in the region. The international community now awaits the Security Council’s response amid growing fears of a broader conflict.
