ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In a significant symbolic gesture toward peace, the first phase of the disarmament process for Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) fighters has concluded in the Surdash area near Dukan, with 20 to 30 members laying down their weapons.
According to information obtained by Kurdistan 24, the event took place in Jasana Cave and represents a goodwill step in support of Türkiye's ongoing peace process. The disarmament coincided with a message from Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) parliamentarian Pervin Buldan, who took to the social network X to mark the moment.

“A blessed Friday. I know you're watching, seeing, happy, and at peace. Rest easy, comrade Sırrı. Today, the weapons will be surrendered,” she wrote, addressing the late Sırrı Süreyya Önder.
Buldan added, “Now, a future lies ahead where young people no longer die and mothers no longer weep. May peace be your gift.”
Both Buldan and Önder were members of the Imrali delegation, which has been involved in past efforts to mediate peace between the Turkish state and the PKK.
Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who passed away on May 3, 2025, at the age of 63, was a prominent figure in Turkish politics. He served as Deputy Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, a DEM Party lawmaker for the Istanbul constituency, and Deputy Head of the DEM Party’s parliamentary group.
The disarmament marks a step forward in the broader process aimed at ending decades of conflict and establishing a foundation for lasting peace.
