Deadly Explosion in Northern Idlib Kills Four, Injures 116, Syrian Authorities Confirm
Four dead and 116 injured after a military warehouse explosion in Syria's Idlib, with reports of aircraft overhead and ongoing secondary blasts complicating rescue efforts as authorities investigate the cause.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Syria’s Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that four people were killed and at least 116 others injured in a powerful explosion that rocked the town of Ma’arrat Misrin in northern Idlib countryside.
The blast occurred in a military warehouse near the town of al-Fu’ah, sending plumes of thick black smoke into the air and igniting widespread fires. The cause of the explosion is still unknown. while reports noted the presence of unidentified aircraft flying over the area at the time of the incident.
Ambulance units swiftly arrived at the scene, as civil defense teams launched emergency operations to evacuate the wounded. The scale of the devastation prompted urgent warnings from authorities urging civilians to stay away from the blast site.
Emergency Ministry: Ongoing Explosions Hindering Rescue Efforts
Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh issued a statement on X, emphasizing that rescue operations were ongoing despite significant obstacles.
“We are closely following the unidentified explosion that occurred today in Ma’arrat Misrin. Civil defense teams rushed immediately to the scene and are performing their duties to evacuate victims and transport the injured,” Saleh wrote.
He added, “Repeated secondary explosions continue to disrupt response efforts, and no final toll of casualties has yet been confirmed, as evacuation and first aid efforts remain underway.”
Saleh urged residents of Idlib to avoid the blast zone for their own safety, stressing that emergency teams are operating at full capacity under extremely dangerous and complex conditions.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, and authorities have yet to determine whether it was accidental, the result of a targeted strike, or related to volatile munitions in the area.
