Kurdistan Region PM Holds Phone Talks with Qatar’s Leadership on Regional Security

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, on Thursday held a phone conversation with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who serves as both Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. The leaders discussed recent developments in the Kurdistan Region, Qatar, and the wider region, expressing concern over rising tensions and security threats.

In a statement, published by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), both sides strongly condemned terrorist attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region and Qatar, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace, security, and stability.

They agreed that militias and outlawed groups continue to pose serious threats and highlighted the responsibility of the Iraqi government to bring these groups under control.

Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s solidarity with the people of Qatar, stressing the need for continued communication and coordination to address regional challenges.

Following the call, Barzani posted on his official X account that the discussion focused on shared concerns over escalating tensions and the importance of confronting outlaw militia groups while ensuring the protection of civilians and stability in the region.

The phone call underscores ongoing diplomatic engagement between Erbil and Doha, reflecting mutual efforts to strengthen regional cooperation and to mitigate risks posed by armed groups amid a volatile security landscape.
