Iran FM: Muslim Unity Key to Facing External Challenges
Iranian Foreign Minister says Iran’s armed forces have demonstrated their readiness and capabilities, while calling for greater unity among Muslim countries
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called for unity among Muslim countries to confront what he described as external challenges, while praising Iran’s armed forces for demonstrating their readiness and capabilities against what he called the world’s most expensive military.
On Friday, Araghchi wrote on his official X account that Iran’s armed forces had shown their readiness, capability, and strength in the face of the world’s most expensive military.
He added that Muslim unity would enable countries to confront what he described as challenges posed by outside forces, calling for greater self-reliance and what he termed “true brotherhood.”
Araghchi’s remarks come as Iran has yet to give its final approval to a proposed agreement involving Iran, Oman, and the United States concerning a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
A diplomatic source said Iran’s Supreme National Security Council is expected to consider the proposed agreement, while Iran’s negotiating team is awaiting the council’s final approval before signing the tripartite deal with the United States and Oman.
According to Axios, the proposed agreement concerns the declaration of a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The diplomatic source said the Iranian negotiating team is waiting for the final approval of the Supreme National Security Council before signing the agreement.
The Supreme National Security Council is described as Iran’s highest decision-making institution on strategic issues.
Since March 2026, Mohammad Bagher Zolqadr has served as secretary of the council, following the killing of its former secretary, Ali Larijani, in an attack.
The council consists of 12 senior political, military, and security members and is responsible for determining national defense and security policies, as well as coordination on nuclear and intelligence matters.
Its decisions are subsequently sent to Iran’s Supreme Leader for final approval and signature.
Against this backdrop, Araghchi called on Muslims to stand together and rely on their own capabilities, saying Iran’s armed forces had demonstrated their readiness and strength.
