UAE Condemns Iranian Drone Strike on Kurdistan Region Prime Minister's Office in Official Statement
Abu Dhabi calls the predawn attack on KRG government sites a violation of Iraq's sovereignty and expresses full solidarity with Baghdad and Erbil
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - The United Arab Emirates issued an official statement on Monday condemning the Iranian drone strikes that targeted the private office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of the Director of the Kurdistan Protection Agency in Pirmam district, Erbil governorate, in the early hours of Monday morning.
The UAE's condemnation places Abu Dhabi among the growing number of governments and international organizations that have spoken out against Monday's predawn attack, in which two Hadid-110 drones launched from within Iranian borders struck official KRG government sites at 00:28 a.m., according to the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Directorate. No casualties were reported.
The UAE's statement reflects the broader Gulf alarm over Iran's continued willingness to strike civilian and governmental infrastructure across the region despite the expiry of the 60-day US-Iran memorandum of understanding on Sunday, August 16, 2026, without a final peace deal or agreed extension. Abu Dhabi has itself been designated by Iran as a site of "hostile bases" during the conflict, making the UAE's solidarity with the Kurdistan Region a statement of shared exposure as much as political alignment.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani responded to the attack on Monday with characteristic resolve. "These attacks cannot stop us," he said. "We will continue our duties and the protection of our citizens."
The Kurdistan Region's Counter-Terrorism Directorate confirmed that both drones were of the Hadid-110 type and were launched from Iran, targeting the Prime Minister's office and the Director of the Kurdistan Protection Agency's residence in what officials described as a deliberate strike on the highest levels of KRG leadership and security infrastructure. The attack came on the same day the 60-day US-Iran MOU expired without resolution and hours after a tense meeting between Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and IRGC Quds Force Commander Ismail Qaani ended with the Iranian delegation leaving in visible anger.
The Independent Human Rights Commission of the Kurdistan Region and the Kurdistan Rawendi Confederation both issued condemnations earlier Monday, calling the strikes a flagrant violation of international law and Iraqi and Kurdish sovereignty, and demanding serious international action to prevent recurrence. The UAE's official statement adds a significant Gulf voice to that chorus of condemnation.
