ERBI (Kurdistan24) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Sunday that NATO and European Union member states cannot disavow responsibility for their military assistance to Ukraine or their hostile posture toward Moscow, in remarks that came as a German newspaper reported signs of weakening European support for Kyiv.

Speaking to the newspaper Vzglyad, Lavrov said Russia is closely monitoring the actions of what he described as Moscow's opponents in London, Brussels, Paris, Berlin, and other NATO and EU member states.

"They are aware of their own actions and are trying to openly and preemptively distance themselves from responsibility, but that attempt will not succeed," Lavrov said.

Separately, the German newspaper Die Welt reported that European support for Ukraine is expected to decline in the period ahead, a shift the outlet attributed to anticipated political changes in several European countries and a shrinking base of public support for pro-Kyiv positions.

The newspaper reported that EU backing for Ukraine has already begun to soften, citing Hungary as an example within this trend. According to the report, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar reaffirmed that his country does not extend special treatment to Ukraine.

The report also noted friction between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his international partners. Die Welt said Zelensky's view of himself as representing Europe's last line of defense against Russian threats has contributed to growing fatigue among EU member states.

Russia has repeatedly warned Western countries that sending weapons to Ukraine will not change conditions on the battlefield and will only prolong the conflict.
