US Official Tells Kurdistan24 No Casualties Reported in Attack on Erbil
A US official told Kurdistan24 that no casualties were reported in the attack on Erbil and that all US forces remained safe.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - A US official told Kurdistan24 on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, that no casualties were reported in the attack on Erbil and that all US forces remained safe.
The official said the US defense system was activated during the attack.
“There were no casualties reported in the attack on Erbil. All our forces are safe, and our defense system was activated during the attack.”
The statement came after allied forces intercepted and shot down 10 drones over Erbil Governorate during the early hours of Wednesday, according to the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Directorate.
The Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Directorate said the 10 incoming drones were intercepted between 1:13 and 3:31 a.m., in an interception operation lasting two hours and 18 minutes.
All 10 drones were successfully neutralized before reaching their targets, the directorate said, adding that no loss of life or injuries were reported as a result of the attack.
The overnight interception was the latest aerial attack against the Kurdistan Region during the six-month US-Iran conflict. The Kurdistan Region has maintained strict neutrality since the war began on February 28, 2026, while repeated Iranian drone and missile strikes have hit its territory, infrastructure and government facilities.
The most significant previous attack on Kurdistan Regional Government infrastructure occurred on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026.
Two Hadid-110 drones launched from within Iranian borders struck the private office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the Kurdistan Protection Agency Director office in Pirmam district, Erbil Governorate, at 00:28 a.m.
The attack drew condemnations from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, the Iraqi federal government, the Kurdistan Human Rights Commission, the Kurdistan Rawendi Confederation, US Congressman Don Bacon and Iraqi Federal Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, who said that any violation of the Kurdistan Region’s security is a violation of Iraq’s national security.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani responded to the earlier attack by saying:
“These attacks cannot stop us. We will continue our duties and the protection of our citizens.”
Wednesday’s interception of all 10 incoming drones before any damage occurred underscores the continuing efforts by Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism forces and allied units to strengthen air defense capacity in the Region in response to the sustained aerial threat.
The US official’s statement also came as the United Arab Emirates reiterated its full solidarity and support for protecting the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in the face of attacks.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Iranian attacks involving missiles and drones that targeted Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The ministry said the attacks constituted a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of countries and posed a direct threat to regional security and stability.
It also reiterated the UAE’s full solidarity with Iraq, the Kurdistan Regional Government and countries across the region, expressing support for all measures aimed at safeguarding their security and stability.
