UAE Foreign Minister Calls Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to Offer Condolences on Barzani Family Loss

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Kurdistan Region Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received a phone call on Sunday evening, from Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, who extended his condolences over the passing of the late Abdul Wahid Ibrahim Sheikh Abdul Salam Barzani, elder brother of the Barzani family.

Sheikh Abdullah expressed his sympathy and condolences to Prime Minister Masrour Barzani over the loss of the late Abdul Wahid Ibrahim Sheikh Abdul Salam Barzani, conveying the UAE's heartfelt solidarity with the Barzani family at this time of grief.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani thanked the UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister for his call and personal condolences, expressing his appreciation for the gesture of solidarity from Abu Dhabi's senior leadership.

The call reflects the depth of the relationship between the Kurdistan Region's leadership and the United Arab Emirates, which has been one of the most consistent international partners of the Kurdistan Region throughout the six-month US-Iran conflict. The UAE officially condemned the Iranian drone strikes on Prime Minister Masrour Barzani's office on August 17, 2026, and subsequently halted all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran on August 18, 2026, in a sweeping economic decision that represented one of the most significant Gulf state responses to Iranian aggression against KRG government infrastructure.

President Barzani had announced the passing of the late Abdul Wahid Ibrahim Sheikh Abdul Salam Barzani on Friday, describing him as a grandson of the national and religious leader Sheikh Abdul Salam Barzani and a model of faith, piety, and goodness within the Barzani family.
