Soran Antiquities Directorate Completes Survey for New Museum and Archaeological Park

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Directorate of Antiquities and Heritage of the Soran Independent Administration has completed a detailed survey of a site designated for the construction of a new directorate building, museum, and archaeological park near Pashai Gawra Castle.
On Thursday, Abdulwahab Suleiman, Director of Antiquities and Heritage of the Soran Independent Administration, told Kurdistan24 that the survey was the first and a crucial step toward detailed scientific planning for the project.
He said the survey will determine the total area and dimensions of the site, which was designated by the Soran Antiquities Directorate in 2009 for the construction of a new building for the Directorate of Antiquities and Heritage.
According to Suleiman, the survey also produced a detailed topographic map showing the site's elevations and depressions, providing a foundation for planning and organizing the project.
The proposed project includes a new directorate building, a museum, and an archaeological park, as well as green spaces, parking areas, service facilities, and other essential infrastructure.
Suleiman said that once the design and preliminary plans are completed, the project will move to the implementation stage. Separate cost estimates will be prepared for each phase to determine the project's overall budget.
He added that the Directorate is currently coordinating with the Soran Independent Administration and the Soran District governorate to secure the necessary funding. The supervisor of the Soran Independent Administration has pledged full support to secure the required budget for the project this year, Suleiman said.
The Soran antiquities director also noted that the Director-General of Antiquities and Heritage, who has been in office for about one month, has included the establishment of museums across the Kurdistan Region's independent administrations and governorates in his work plan.
Suleiman described the initiative as a strong incentive for advancing what he called a national project to preserve and promote the Kurdistan Region's archaeological and cultural heritage.
