Kremlin Says Trilateral Ukraine-Russia-US Meeting Could Happen Soon
Washington has proposed that the United Arab Emirates host technical-level talks involving Ukraine, Russia and the US as diplomatic efforts to end the war continue.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The United States has proposed that the United Arab Emirates host a trilateral meeting with Ukraine and Russia to discuss efforts to end the war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday, while the Kremlin said a three-way meeting could take place soon.
Zelensky told reporters in a briefing via WhatsApp that the US had proposed a technical-level meeting involving the three countries and that Washington had suggested the UAE as a possible venue.
“We are awaiting a proposal from the United States regarding the date, and the United States has suggested the Emirates as a possible location,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky held talks this week with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, where they discussed efforts to bring an end to the war that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Following the meeting, Ukrainian negotiators held talks with their US counterparts to discuss specific details, Zelensky said.
“We will inform and discuss these details with the European side, the Americans will talk to the Russians, and we will return in 10 days with either a new perspective or a result,” he said.
Zelensky also said he had asked Trump to raise the war in Ukraine during his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is on a state visit to the US.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine and the US could take place.
Peskov said there were no further details about a potential meeting to provide at this stage.
He also said Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s presidential envoy, was in the United States, where he had been holding discussions with US negotiators and focusing on potential economic cooperation.
Reuters reported earlier that Dmitriev met with US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on Wednesday.
Zelensky said he was still awaiting feedback from the US team, particularly on efforts to de-escalate the conflict ahead of winter.
He also warned European partners that Russia would continue what he described as hybrid attacks against them and said Ukraine had offered assistance to European countries.
The Kremlin has denied being behind acts of sabotage in European countries in recent months.
