ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Erbil Governor Omed Xoshnaw said the strategic Kore-Shaqlawa-Qandil road project, which includes the Mirawa and Mawaran tunnels, has reached its final stage and will soon open to citizens and tourists.

In a statement on Saturday, Xoshnaw said work on the project began on the order of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and has now entered its final stage.

He said the project falls within the vision and program of the Ninth Cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government to strengthen and modernize road infrastructure across the Kurdistan Region.

The governor said all sections and stages of the work have so far been carried out successfully and without problems.

He added that the project was carried out by local engineers, who followed the highest quality standards and international engineering standards.

In his view, this reflects the growing capacity of local expertise to manage large and strategic projects.

On the technical details, Xoshnaw said the project consists of a 10-kilometer dual-carriageway expressway and the two strategic Mirawa and Mawaran tunnels.

It also includes three modern overpasses and underpasses built to international standards.

According to the governor, once completed the project will have a notable effect on reducing congestion, protecting citizens’ safety, and developing the area’s tourism and economic sectors.
