COVID-19: KRG announces 210 new infections and 143 recoveries

On Wednesday, the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Health announced 210 new coronavirus infections, 143 recoveries, and 12 deaths due to the disease over 24 hours.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Wednesday, the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Health announced 210 new coronavirus infections, 143 recoveries, and 12 deaths due to the disease over 24 hours.

A ministry statement mentioned that health workers had conducted 2,295 tests over the same period, 210 of which came back as positive. Out of the total, 69 were in Erbil province, 121 in Sulaimani, eleven in Duhok, nine in Halabja, according to the statement.

The ministry noted that 143 more patients had recovered from the disease, and 12 had succumbed to it.

According to the official figures, the Kurdistan Region has had 11,571 confirmed coronavirus cases, including 6,309 recoveries, and 444 deaths.

On Tuesday evening, the Kurdistan Region’s interior minister announced in a press conference that some anti-coronavirus restrictions would be relaxed in coordination with provincial authorities. He noted, however, that specific public facilities, celebrations, funerals would remain prohibited until August 1.

Earlier on Wednesday, the deputy governor of Duhok province, Majid Sayed Saleh, said in a press conference that citizens would be able to travel to other provinces in the Kurdistan Region by filling out an online forum to obtain a travel permit.

Saleh also urged the public to adhere to the health regulations and guidelines especially as the Islamic holidays of Eid al-Adha arrive. He also called on citizens to avoid places of large gatherings.
