ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani reiterated that the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court's ruling on the autonomous region's oil and gas violates its constitutional rights during a meeting with a high-ranking American delegation on Wednesday.

The delegation included US Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller, Commander of the Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria General John Brennan, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran Jennifer Gavito, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan Ethan Goldrich, and the US Consul General in Erbil Robert Palladino.

They discussed "the latest developments regarding the Iraqi political process and the situation in Syria and the region in general", according to a statement on the KRG website.

The focus of the meeting was the Federal Supreme Court's ruling on the oil and gas sector in the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani indicated that "the court's decision is a violation of the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region and does not serve the citizens, stability, security, and peace in Iraq."

He reiterated "the Kurdistan Region's readiness to solve problems through dialogue and on the basis of the constitution."

The US delegation also reiterated its support for economic and political stability of the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting also dealt with the threats and dangers posed by ISIS and the importance of supporting the Peshmerga.
