14th Hamburg Kurdish Film Festival kicks off
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Under the slogan "A New Country" the 14th annual Hamburg Kurdish Film Festival (HKFF) kicked off with Kurdish music and songs in Germany with the presence of the large Kurdish diaspora in Europe.
One of the festival's board members, Rawand Jawad, told Kurdistan 24: "We commenced the festival with several pieces of music and a Kurmanci song by Jamila and her friends. After the screening of the feature film, ‘When the Seedlings Grow,’ the short film ‘Datash’ was screened.”
He also added that among the 125 films submitted to the festival, 19 had been selected.
According to the festival's program, there will be “six documentaries, four feature films, nine short films, and a series of seminars, workshops, and special panels for writers and critics.”
Launched in 2005, the HKFF’s goal is to create a space in which people can tell their Kurdish stories about resistance, women’s rights, and ongoing crimes against the ethnic group.
In addition, the festival seeks to further enhance Kurdish cinema to meet modern standards and to introduce Kurdish culture to the international community.
