ERBIL (Kurdistan) – During an exclusive interview with the French radio station Monte Carlo, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani stated that "the democracy in Iraq is under threat."

KDP President Barzani stated that Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani has encountered several obstacles in implementing the points of the political agreement on which the State Administration Coalition is based. Several internal and external parties have been accused by President Barzani of creating obstacles to the federal government's work.

President Barzani stressed the importance of eliminating conflicts and creating unity in the Kurdistan Region.

Furthermore, he rejected Iranian accusations that Erbil is a haven for Tehran's enemies, particularly after the ballistic missile attack on Erbil on Jan. 15. As a result of Tehran's failure to respond to the forces, some parties are targeting Erbil to conceal their failures, according to President Barzani.

“There is a risk of a repeat of the 2011 scenario, which occurred shortly after the United States military departed and resulted in the occupation of one-third of Iraq's territory by ISIS,” President Barzani noted.

Meanwhile, he added that recent decisions made by the Iraqi Supreme Federal Court are against the Kurdistan Region, and the court has violated its “constitutional authority.”
