Peshmerga fighter wounded in IS attack in Diyala
A Peshmerga fighter was wounded in a roadside bomb blast during a security patrol on Monday in the northeast of Diyala Province, a local source reported.
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – A Peshmerga fighter was wounded in a roadside bomb blast during a security patrol on Monday in the northeast of Diyala Province, a local source reported.
“An explosive device was placed on the side of an agricultural road near al-Tabaj area, northeast of Baqubah and exploded on Monday, leaving one Peshmerga fighter injured,” the source said in an interview with Al-Sumaria News.
The source, who asked not to be named, said the “security team launched an investigation into the incident, while the victim was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment.”
In a statement, the military intelligence department said one militant was killed as a group of insurgents attacked security personnel in the province.
On Sunday, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said the number of Kurdish fighters martyred since the emergence of the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq in 2014 stands at 1,760.
Mahmoud Haji Saleh, the Kurdish Martyrs Affairs Minister, said 9,000 fighters have also been wounded, while 63 others are missing, since the start of the war.
Iraqi Forces are attempting to drive IS militants out of their last major stronghold in Iraq’s Mosul.
The campaign is nearing its end with only a few pockets held by the group in the Old City.
