Iraqi forces kill five prominent Islamic State leaders
Iraqi police forces launched a successful attack on the village of Karha Qazan southwest of Kirkuk Province on Monday night where Islamic State members were hiding and killed five senior leaders.
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iraqi police forces launched a successful attack on the village of Karha Qazan southwest of Kirkuk Province on Monday night where Islamic State members were hiding and killed five senior leaders.
According to the Iran-backed Hashd al-Shaabi’s website, also known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), the information was provided to the Iraqi police forces through the group’s intelligence gathering unit.
Among those named in the post on the PMF’s website are IS members that were responsible for an ambush against the Iran-backed militias in the village of Saadouniyah, killing around 30 members.
The members of the IS unit responsible for the attack in Saadouniyah are reported to have disguised themselves as Iraqi police and had also set up a fake checkpoint.
The names of the IS members published on the website along with photos are as follows:
1. Abu Radhwan who held many positions within IS, the most recent one being the group’s military commander of the town of Riyadh to the city of Hawija;
2. Abu Dhar, responsible for the terrorist organization’s legal work in the region of Riyadh and Hawija;
3. Abu Haifa, supervisor of IS’ medical team in Kirkuk;
4. Abu Haitham, assistant to IS “governor” in Kirkuk;
5. Abu Talha, also known as al-Shaib.
The post notes that Abu Radhwan was one of the planners behind the surprise assault in Saadouniyah and claims he was also appointed with Abu Talha to carry out attacks on the day of the Iraqi parliamentary elections that took place on May 12.
Iraq announced late last year its victory over IS after three years of war with the group, but the extremists have still been able to plan and launch small-scale attacks through “sleeper cells.”
