Kurdistan’s Elections Commission announces 85 percent of preliminary results
Once the investigations into the complaints are over, the Commission will announce the complete results.
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region’s Independent High Election and Referendum Commission (IHERC) has announced the preliminary results of 85 percent of the votes for the Sept. 30 parliamentary elections.
During a press conference in Erbil on Thursday, Sherwan Zrar, the spokesperson of the IHERC, announced the results for 85 percent of the votes as counting is ongoing due to complaints.
He added the IHERC received 1,045 complaints related to voting in the recent parliamentary elections which the Commission is currently investigating.
Once the investigations into the complaints are over, the Commission will announce the complete results, Zrar revealed, indicating there might be a change in the outcomes.
Preliminary results after 85 percent of votes counted:
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP): 595,592 votes
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK): 287,575 votes
Gorran Movement: 164,336 votes
New Generation: 113,297 votes
Islamic Group (Komal): 94,992 votes
Reform Coalition: 69,477 votes
Sardam Coalition: 13,708 votes
Azadi (Communist party): 7,069 votes
Coalition for Democracy and Justice: 6,686 votes
Kurdistan Conservative Party: 3,028 votes
On Sept. 30, three million people in the Kurdistan Region went to polling stations to cast their votes in the fourth parliamentary elections since 1991.
According to the IHERC, 773 candidates from 29 political parties and coalitions competed for a seat in the 111-seat parliament.
