Iraq records the highest-ever daily COVID-19 recoveries, 2,125 new infections

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Iraqi Ministry of Health and Environment announced On Sunday 2,125 new coronavirus infections and 105 deaths, along with the highest number of daily recoveries from the disease so far.
In its daily statement, the ministry mentioned that in the past 24 hours, health workers had carried out 11,711 tests, bringing the national total to 601,088 examinations since the outbreak first began in Iraq.
The statement also detailed that the total number of infections had reached 60,479, including 33,017 recoveries, 2,473 deaths, and 24,989 active cases.
As the number of infections continues to rise steadily, with over 2,000 new cases recorded daily, Iraqi hospitals have become packed with patients seeking treatment.
On Sunday, two new health centers opened in the country, including one in the densely populated national capital and one in Diyala province.
In Diyala, the mayor of the disputed Khanaqin district announced the inauguration of the Alwand health center that was built with public donations to aid efforts to combat the coronavirus.
"The Alwand health center, which holds 60 beds, has been opened and there are currently several people affected by coronavirus being cared for," said Yousef Ibrahim, Khanaqin district government communications director, in a statement.
Furthermore, In Baghdad, Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimmi inaugurated al-Ataa Hospital, located east of the capital, which was previously the headquarters of the Peace Brigades of the Sadrist movement, headed by Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.
The new facility is a 200-bed hospital and reportedly contains 21 resuscitators, 300 oxygen bottles, and ambulances.
