COVID-19: Kurdistan announces 277 infections and 94 recoveries
A ministry statement said that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across the Kurdistan Region had increased to 14,134.
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Health on Saturday announced 277 new coronavirus cases, ten new deaths, 94 recoveries during the past 24 hours.
The ministry said in a statement that it had conducted 2,465 coronavirus tests over the same period, of which 277 came back positive: 202 in Erbil province, 49 in Duhok, 26 in Sulaimani.
The statement added that the total confirmed cases of the virus in the region had increased to 14,134. Of the total, according to official data, 9,177 have recovered, 551 have passed away, and the rest remain active.
Earlier on Saturday, the Ministry of Health announced the allocation of one billion IQD to the Erbil Health Directorate to combat the coronavirus. The ministry noted that the new funds came under a directive from Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
The statement also explained the amount that would be spent from the emergency budget the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) allocated to tackle the coronavirus outbreak across the region.
On Saturday, the two international airports in the Kurdistan Region's cities of Erbil and Sulaimani received their first arrivals, as they restarted commercial flights after months of closure as part of travel restrictions put in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Since March 17, flights have been suspended throughout the Kurdistan Region, under orders from Iraq’s Civil Aviation Authority. Flights to and from international airports in the Iraqi cities Baghdad, Najaf, and Basra resumed on July 23.
