ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A security expert said on Friday that Iraqi forces had killed two senior terrorists, including Suhaib Hamid al-Zawi, the son of the former leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Omar al-Baghdadi.

Zawi was targeted in an operation by the Iraqi military intelligence when he was accompanied by another suspected senior terrorist in Anbar province, said Fadel Abu Ragheef, an al-Qaeda expert who advises the Iraqi government on security issues.

The military conducted "meticulous" planning to target the suspects in the al-Qaim desert, Anbar, according to Abu Ragheef.

Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, whose real name is Hamid Dawood Muhammad Khalil al-Zawi, was the emir of the "Islamic State of Iraq" from 2006 until his death in 2010 near Tikrit.
