ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - A delegation of Diyarbakir Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by its President Ahmed Kaya visited Erbil on Tuesday and was welcomed by Erbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw, President and members of the chamber of Commerce and Industry.

During the meeting, Erbil Governor announced that, “Direct flight between Erbil and Diyarbakir will be resumed,” and that, “The main aim is to expand the financial ties.”

Regarding the visit of the president of Diyarbakir Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Omid Khoshnaw told Kurdistan24, "Our meeting emphasized the development of relations between the two chambers of commerce of Erbil and Diyarbakir, which have had very good relations in the past.”

"The delegation gave us the good news that the direct flight between Erbil and Diyarbakir will soon resume. This will certainly serve both sides, the people of both provinces, promote relations and trade movement," he said.

Omid Khoshnaw stressed the importance of strengthening the relations with Turkey and reiterated that, “Relations between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey are good at all levels, but the relationship between the chambers of commerce will improve relations on all levels.”

“The Diyarbakir Chamber of Commerce will hold an exhibition at the end of April. They have invited us and we have accepted the invitation with pleasure,” he stated.

In return, the President of the Diyarbakir Chamber of Commerce, while describing his visit to Erbil and the Kurdistan Region, announced that “We feel at home.”

"We have had trade relations with the chambers of commerce of Erbil, Duhok, and Sulaimani since 2008 and we want to develop them. We have signed several trade agreements in recent years," he informed.

"We feel at home. Our main goal is to increase the volume of trade. We want to remove obstacles such as visa problems," Kaya said.

According to Mr. Kaya, the flights between Erbil and Diyarbakir will resume this month. “This will further develop relations so that we can work together, both sides will benefit and we can create a strong sector in the world," he said.

"In 2014, we exported about $13 billion to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq; in 2022 we reached $14 billion. This is not enough for us and we believe that with the development of relations, there will be more coordination and partnerships, and this will be through the governor and chambers of commerce,” Kaya explained.
