PM Barzani, Amb. Hitchen focus on financial rights, development project

Erbil (Kurdistan24) – Today, Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Masrour Barzani met with the British Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hitchen.

The meeting, attended by the British Consul General to the region, James Goldman, focused on several critical topics, including the resolution of disputes between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government.

Discussions included Prime Minister Barzani's recent visit to Baghdad, where he met with senior officials and political parties.

This visit was highlighted as a significant step toward resolving issues related to the region's financial rights and entitlements, based on the constitution, signed agreements, and the federal government's ministerial platform.

Another key topic was the Development Road Project, which aims to connect the Gulf countries to Turkey and European countries via Iraqi railways.

Both sides emphasized the importance of including the Kurdistan Region in this strategic project to ensure it benefits all Iraqi components and regions.

The upcoming Kurdistan Parliament elections were also discussed, with both parties agreeing on the importance of holding the elections at an appropriate time this year.

They stressed the need to overcome obstacles to the electoral process to ensure the participation of all parties and preserve the rights of ethnic and religious communities.
