Mike Tyson's comeback fight with Jake Paul rescheduled for November
Tyson confidently added, "While we have a new date, the result will be the same, regardless of when we fight. I will beat Jake Paul by knockout."
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Former boxing legend Mike Tyson is set to return to the ring to face YouTube content creator Jake Paul in a highly anticipated match rescheduled for November 15.
Originally slated for July, the fight was postponed due to health issues faced by the former world heavyweight champion.
Promoters confirmed on Friday that the venue remains unchanged: AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home to the Dallas Cowboys. The event will be broadcast to 270 million subscribers via the streaming platform Netflix.
Paul announced the new date on the X platform, stating, “New date, same place, same fate.”
Tyson, who will turn 58 on June 30, required medical attention during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles last month after experiencing nausea and dizziness.
This health scare came just two months before his expected fight with Paul. Organizers revealed that Tyson suffered from an ulcer exacerbation, leading doctors to recommend a reduction in his training, which necessitated the postponement.
“Although we had to postpone the fight, I will resume training soon,” Tyson reassured his fans. He expressed gratitude to his medical team and all parties involved in rescheduling the match.
Tyson confidently added, "While we have a new date, the result will be the same, regardless of when we fight. I will beat Jake Paul by knockout."
Despite his recent health issues, Tyson affirmed his readiness and determination, thanking his global fanbase for their support and understanding. "My body is in better general condition than it was in the nineties, and I will soon return to my full exercises," he said.
Tyson, who dominated the heavyweight division in the eighties and nineties, had previously dismissed concerns about his age, insisting he had no reservations about returning to the ring nearly two decades after his last professional fight in 2005, where he lost to Irishman Kevin McBride.
The bout will see Tyson face off against Paul, who is 31 years his junior, in an eight-round professional fight, with each round lasting two minutes, as approved by the Texas boxing authorities.
However, some members of the boxing community, including former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, have voiced concerns about the potential risks to Tyson's health.
