ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – "President Barzani does not only represent the Kurdish people during his visit to Baghdad, but he represents all Iraqis in resolving the problems facing the Iraqi political process," said Dr. Chwas Hassan, an advisor to the Kurdistan Parliament.

Dr. Hassan, an academic and advisor, highlighted the significant role of the Kurds in Iraq's political landscape, stating, “The Kurds have had a major role in Iraq since the 1960s and 1980s during the revolution and in the mountains. This role has shaped the political map of the Kurdistan Region, continuing since the era of Mulla Mustafa Barzani.”

He added, "After the 2003 Iraqi Freedom War, the influence of the Kurds and President Barzani in reorganizing and establishing a new Iraq has been prominent regionally and internationally. Iraq now needs to reorganize itself due to internal conflicts and regional and external hegemony, as it is in a precarious situation."

Hassan pointed out that the issues in Iraq are twofold: "The first set of problems are current and partly related to the Sunnis, and the conflicts between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The creation of a new Iraq based on partnership, agreement, and balance has not been fully implemented."

"This visit by President Barzani marks a new phase in reorganizing Iraq and addressing its political crisis. Iraq has faced persistent problems for the past decade, particularly since 2014. Beyond the war against terrorism and ISIS, the rights of Kurds, Sunnis, and other groups in Iraq have reached an impasse. The 2019 Shiite demonstrations indicate that the political process and governance in Iraq require a comprehensive review," he continued.

He emphasized, "President Barzani has played two crucial roles since the beginning: leading the revolution to achieve the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people and striving to establish democracy in Iraq. His wisdom, precision, and farsightedness in identifying and solving problems make him a fair and effective leader. President Barzani is now playing a pivotal role in addressing the issues facing all Iraqi sects within the political process."
